New Construction of Plywood Decks

  • We recommend 3/4” PC buff plywood (plugged, cross banded, fir faced) from Plywood Supply, installed over joists.
  • Or 1/2” plywood may be used over existing materials. Overall thickness needs to be a minimum of 3/4”.
  • Plywood should be tongue and groove where possible. If NOT using T&G then block seams underneath.
  • Install with good side up.
  • Slope at 1/4” per foot away from the building.
  • Install fascia first with plywood running over top of fascia.
  • Fasten with non-corroding screws every 4” along butt joints, 12” OC over intermediate supports. Screws should be just below flush.
  • Plywood MUST be kept dry. We can’t stress this enough. It has to be completely dry for proper adhesion of the coating.

Existing Decks

We are happy to do an inspection with the contractor to look for any existing problems before a
re coat. If problems are found we will advise per job.

Door Pans

A door pan must be installed for each door leading onto the deck even if the deck is to be covered. Door pans are $60 each and we install. Call before the door is to be installed so that we can be on site. If you opt not to put in a door pan we will NOT be able to warranty our work.

Concrete Surfaces

New concrete must have a vapor barrier for slabs on grade and cured at least 28 days.

For all other projects both new and existing, please call for a free consultation.

Flashing

We Install all metals as follows:

  • Flashing is installed where any horizontal surface meets a vertical surface with 2×4” L flashing. It is important to do this step BEFORE siding and trim is installed so that it can be done properly and prevent water intrusion.
  • All perimeter flashing is done with 2×2” or 2×3” drip edge flashing.
  • If posts are present, they will be wrapped with 2×4” flashing.
  • Scuppers and drains, if used, will be installed at this stage.
  • All metals are galvanized or painted metal and stapled every 2”.
